A marathon is a distance that is meant to break the runner. It will question everything you believe in and existence itself.

The post looks into the changes it brings on the runner.

Marathon makes your mind tougher

A marathon distance is one which at some point or the other will translate into a fight between the mind and the body. You want to continue and complete, the body would say otherwise. Only the toughest will complete, and the result being less than 1% of the population would ever run in a marathon.

Marathon makes you humble

Long distance running would humble even the best one of us. The seemingly never ending expanse breaks the toughest to question life. It makes you realise again and again on how small we are in comparison to the distances.

Marathon makes you accept failures

During training or during the run, you fail. You learn from the failures to rise again and give it another shot, only to fail again. Repeatedly you do to reach the point when finally you cross the finish line.

Marathon makes you realise the importance of balancing the macro and the micro

The distance is huge, and you can complete only by focussing on the micro, which is the next kilometre. Yet you need to be aware of the remaining kilometres to execute your strategy.

Marathon makes you question your dedication

In the journey towards the finish line, at multiple points, the question arises on whether to continue or give up. The question also arises, whether to give up the dream of completing it within your defined time limit, or to breach it. Every step becomes a question of how dedicated you are to make it happen and how much you are willing to pay for it to make it happen

Running is a sport not only for the body, but for the mind and for the soul. The journey is beautiful full of enjoyment, learning and peace. Running takes you places which you never thought of. It transposes you into a better human being and a stronger person.

Start your journey now. Become a runner and be one of minority. If you have any questions or need any support on the journey, feel free to write in the comments section and we can have a chat.
