You need willpower to achieve success

We take our health for granted, till we no longer can. Its better to start taking care of it before it becomes a serious issue. The obesity in India is increasing rapidly. We need to start taking action now, before ill health becomes a pandemic stopping the country in its track.

This post is aimed at getting you started on your journey. It is possible to complete half and full marathon, it is possible to get fit, it is possible to enjoy the workout and yes, you can do it.

I started on my fitness journey last year. Though I had no major health issues, but I was continuously putting on weight. With the will to go through the pain and support from amazing people, I have now dropped significant weight and have become leaner. I now participate in running and cycling events.

Your journey will start only when you have a dedication towards getting fit. There is no better time than now, its now or you may be too late.

Start by waking up 30min-1hour earlier than your scheduled time. If you have never exercised or ran before, start by doing walks, go for walks 2–3 days in the week and a longer walk on Sunday.

The best time to exercise is in the morning. Your willpower is at the highest and after a hard day of work, seldom would anyone find the strength to exercise.

When we really want to do something, we always find out the time to do it. If you say you don’t have the time for your health, you really mean is you would rather spend time with a doctor and take pills than spend 1 hour with yourself?

Running and jumping ropes are the easiest ones to start with. You can start with walking if you haven’t exercised in a while. The following week, start mixing these walks with short spurts of run.

Don’t overstrain, overstraining would lead to long recovery time. In running, keep an easy pace, a pace where you don’t get laboured breathing.

During weekends, go for longer periods of walk / run. Explore nearby places. See the sun rise and marvel in the beauty of nature. You will see yourself transforming into a kid. The joy will last with you throughout the week. And yes, exercise is a very addictive sport (in a good sense).

There will be hurdles and obstacles when you start. Do not hesitate to reach out to people, people who have been through this journey and have gone through the same experience.
